  • Zareen was born on 14 June 1996 to Mohammad Jameel Ahmed and Parveen Sultana in Nizamabad city of Andhra Pradesh (now Telangana). She has three sisters. She was introduced to boxing by her father and her uncle, Shamsuddin who is a boxing coach. Zareen started training at the age of thirteen. Zareen later trained in the Sports Authority of India.  Her passion and hard work led her to her first victory in the boxing world. She won a gold medal in the National Sub-Junior Meet in Erode at the age of 14.

Education

  • She completed her primary education at the Nirmala Hrudaya Girls High School in Nizamabad. She is pursuing a degree in Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) at AV College in Hyderabad, Telangana.

  • Zareen has presented electric scooters and a cash award of Rs 10,000 by sports minister V. Srinivas Goud as well as the Sports Authority of Telangana State. Zareen has been appointed as the staff officer in the Bank of India, zonal office at AC Guards, Hyderabad.

Career

She was declared the ‘golden best boxer’ at the Erode Nationals in 2010.

  • Zareen bagged her gold medal in the AIBA Women’s Junior and Youth World Boxing Championship 2011 Held in Turkey. Zareen was up against Turkish boxer Ulku Demir and after three rounds won the bout 27:16.

  • In 2014, she won gold in the Nations Cup International Boxing Tournament in Serbia. In the same year, she brought home the silver medal of the Youth World Boxing Championship 2014, Bulgaria. 

  • She won a gold medal at 16th Senior Woman National Boxing Championship at Assam.

  • She won the ‘Best Boxer’ award in the All-India Inter-University Boxing Championship held in Jalandhar. She won the gold medal in her battle against Ritu. Zareen faces a shoulder injury during the event and went into surgery and rehabilitation.

  • After coming back, she won a silver medal at Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament held in Bangkok. She won a gold medal at Strandja Memorial Boxing Tournament held in Sofia, Bulgaria.

  • After a year’s gap due to Pandemic Zareen won a bronze medal in the Istanbul International event 2021.

  • She also beat Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Buse Naz Çakıroğluin the semi-finals.

  • On 19 May 2022, Zareen won the gold medal in the 52kg category at the Women’s World Championship defeating Thailand’s Jitpong Jutamas in the fly-weight final in Istanbul, Turkey. Zareen became the fifth Indian women’s boxer to win a gold medal at the World Championships.
