Introduction

  • Anil Chauhan is the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). He is a retired Lieutenant General who was appointed as the successor of Lieutenant General Bipin Rawat, who died an untimely death in a helicopter crash. He will also act as the Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs to the Government of India. He will also be the senior liaison between the government of India and the Indian military.

  • The current CDS was born on 18th May 1961 in Pauri Garwhal district, Uttarakhand. He completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya, Fort William, Kolkata. After that, he attended NDA (National Defence Academy) Khadakwasla and then graduated from the Indian Military Academy in 1981. Chauhan retired on 31st May 2021.

Personal Life

  • His wife, Anupama is an artist and also has a daughter named Pragya. Due to his wife being an artist, Chauhan is extremely keen on Tibetan Art. He is also said to be a keen golfer and also has a hobby of collecting Tibetan masks. Apart from these numerous hobbies, he has also written two books; Aftermath a nuclear fallout (published in the year 2010) and History of 11 Gorkha Rifles Regimental Centre.
