NEW DELHI: Indian women’s cricket team is set to face Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday in Sharjah. As they approach this crucial match, India opener Shafali Verma emphasized the importance of maintaining a competitive net run rate (NRR) to strengthen their chances of reaching the semifinals.
“We all know that net run rate is going on, and we keep playing with that in mind.If you are playing in the Indian team, you don’t need to be told about NRR. Everyone is very mature and aware of the situation. So, I think it’s not something that needs saying. But, of course, we have the NRR in our minds, and we’ll keep a focus on it,” Verma said, as quoted by the ICC.

India’s initial loss to New Zealand has made their upcoming match critical. A win against Australia would boost their points to six, leveling with Australia, and enhance their net run rate, which is crucial for the semi-final race. Losing the match still leaves a chance for qualification, but a win provides the best opportunity.
Australia have won all three of their matches so far but face injury concerns. Skipper Alyssa Healy and pacer Tayla Vlaeminck are under observation. Despite these injuries, Australia have a robust bench.
Australian spinner Ashley Gardner said, “Our focus is solely on India, and whatever the team makeup is, I’m sure everyone that is in the XI will do a fantastic job,” highlighting the team’s confidence.
The match is vital for both teams as they compete for a semifinal spot. With India’s net run rate in focus and Australia’s injury issues, the upcoming game promises to be an intense contest.
