Man United fans have joked that Martin Tyler ‘should retire immediately’ after hearing his commentary for their winning goal in the FA Cup final.
The Red Devils put a disappointing season behind them at Wembley by impressively dispatching of Premier League champions and rivals Manchester City 2-1 to win the FA Cup.

Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for United after capitalising on a defensive mistake before Bruno Fernandes tee’d up Kobbie Mainoo for the eventual winner.
It was a sensational no-look assist from the Portuguese playmaker – which was praised by United legend Wayne Rooney – but Tyler had a different view.
In a video that appeared on X, formerly Twitter, Tyler described the attack: ‘Manchester United with Bruno Fernandes, mis-kicked it… Mainoo!’

Tyler, however, labelled the Portuguese playmaker’s pass at Wembley as a ‘mis-kick’
It didn’t take long for United supporters to question the choice of language by the veteran commentator – with some suggesting that he should retire.
Taking to X, one fan wrote: ‘”Miskicked it” they can’t help but hate on the kings’.
‘To be honest, I’m surprised none of the pundits or journalists haven’t made more of this. That pass was one of the all time great football passes, it really was that good.
‘Different story of course if it was a Liverpool player or [Kevin] De Bruyne’, another fan wrote.
Another wrote: ‘Such a fossil, man lost it years ago’. While someone else said: ‘Martin Tyler should retire immediately!’.
Even Specsavers got in on the action, as they wrote: ‘Called him but he mispicked up the phone’.
Another mentioned Tyler’s commentary for Amad Diallo’s winner against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the competition, which they said was similarly underwhelming.
‘He gave the most dead commentary when Amad scored the winner. He’s proper tossed it recently’, they wrote.
Fans also noted how commentators on BBC Radio 5 Live, BBC and ITV made no mention of a ‘mis-kick’ and instead praised the ingenuity of the pass.
United fans quickly piled onto social media to criticise the commentator’s choice of words
In stark contrast, United legend Rooney lumped praise on Fernandes for his ‘incredible’ assist in the FA Cup final.
Along with supporters online, Rooney, speaking to the BBC, hailed Fernandes’ moment of genius. ‘The second goal is an unbelievable goal. The pass from Bruno [Fernandes] is incredible,’ Rooney said.
‘Not many players in world football could make that pass,’ he added.
Roy Keane, who has been critical of the United captain in the past, also praised him for the excellent piece of play.
‘That’s where his brilliance is,’ he told ITV Sport. ‘A lot of players drift in and try and pick a team-mate out but can’t do it, they pass behind somebody.
‘He gives him the perfect pass for a one-touch finish. Simple, brilliant, effective, lovely.’
