Only three goals kicked for the quarter as this game is played between the arcs. Two of those goals came from 50m penalties.
Ross Lyon was able to direct his troops to close up spaces that had appeared early in the Hawthorn forward line and, ultimately, turn the second term into an arm wrestle. Both defences are racking up intercept marks.

As a result, neither side has been able to inflict significant end-to-end damage.
Any time St Kilda brings the ball to the ground inside the 50m arc, they are sadly missing super crumbers Jack Higgins and Dan Butler.
Jarman Impey and Karl Amon have been strong across half-back for the Hawks, while Lloyd Meek has taken it up to Rowan Marshall in the ruck. Jai Newcombe is back in form and having a great head-to-head battle with Saints skipper Jack Steele.
For the quarter, Hawthorn led the inside 50s count 15 to 13 in a game of inches.
Jack Ginnivan benefitted from the first 50m penalty after he had bravely ran back with the flight of the ball and was awarded a free-kick for being crunched in the back. But the Saint booted the footy away, taking Ginnivan to the goal square.
Soon after, Hawk Seamus Mitchell failed to deliver the ball back to Mitch Owens in a correct manner and the resulting 50m penalty ended up in a goal.
This game is up for grabs.
