There are almost 22 languages spoken. But among those 22 languages, Only Hindi is considered to be the official language of India. But the South Indian states have always opposed that idea. These states have had their own languages as an official language. In a country where there are 22 recognized languages, it is not fair at all to treat a language lower than the other. When people are comfortable with the languages of their own state why force the people to learn a language of the convenience of a set of people. There are many people who move to Bangalore for work purposes from North India but still, they don’t take a chance to learn Kanada, and people who move to Mumbai do not learn Marathi even though it is more like Hindi. Trying not to be offensive but still, this is the truth that must be accepted. India is a country with diverse cultures it will not be fair to force people to learn a particular language. But the truth is South Indians do not oppose Hindi, they do make efforts to learn the language which most of the natives don’t even think of doing. The states of South India have added Hindi as a second language along with the syllabus. One Country, One Language is highly impossible to maintain. This can create friction among the people of different states and governments. So it would be likely to have the mother language of the state as the official language. Most people in India know to read, write and speak English fluently and most of them are convenient with English as a conversational language in India. The fair truth is that the people have never opposed Hindi as the official language of the country. It is only that the people have got comfortable with their mother language and English. To South Indian syllabus and the number of people ready to migrate from their hometown to a foreign land where the language is new. But the migrators from the Southern part make it a point to learn the language at least to the point of understanding the speaker’s point of view. Above all the ideas of acceptance of a particular language, our country functions on the basic law of freedom of choice. It is the basic freedom given to each and every citizen of India. So let the choice of language be the choice of people. Let the language widely used by the people be the official one but let us also make sure that we do not force that onto the people who don’t go for it.
