As per my knowledge section, 377 was introduced in India by Britishers in the 19th century. Because of that homosexual and LGBTQ, community suffered till 2018. And still suffering because it was easy to decriminalize homosexuality in the eyes of the law but it is far more difficult to do so in the eyes of people. The Supreme court decriminalized 377 in 2018 and it’s been 3 years. Ask your self are you able to talk about anything related to sex or LGBTQ around your family members or in some discussion. The majority answer must be NO. It’s unimaginable because in our county talking about sex is also not a good thing or can say taboo. Basically in India, in the name of sex education, we have nothing except an insanely awkward 1 hour class in 10th standard.
Because of this, the impact of this will be lower than expected. Yeah, there won’t be any criminal charges against this but society doesn’t work only by laws. Society works by people and their mindset. India’s most population is youth. And this youth has access to the internet means access to each other and the outer world than India. Because of this, our youth is learning things and understanding that these things are normal. But there is a big chunk of the population that is orthodox and isn’t connected with the outer world. For them accepting this kind of thing will be a tough call. Yeah, India had its big LGBTQ rallies and example marriages but they are only a small effort if we consider the population of India.

After 2018 there were more jokes than understanding. The youth was busy calling the other one Gay and the other one was also busy calling the first one the same. I mean to say that right after the court’s judgment people weren’t serious about it at all. But in 2021 I can see the change in our youth as I said, they connected with the outer world and started to understand things better. Now there are fewer people than back then making jokes about homosexuality. I witnessed friends start accepting their friends who they are. And there I can see that the future of the LGBTQ community and The future of sex education in India is bright.
