SYDNEY: Australian health authorities have detected the presence of the avian influenza virus at an egg farm near Melbourne although further testing was needed to determine the exact type and nature of the disease, they said on Wednesday.
Victoria state’s agriculture department said it was investigating several poultry deaths at the property, which had been quarantined.
Samples have been sent to a nearby facility for further testing, it added.
