Jammu: A man who fled with an AK-47 rifle of a special police officer (SPO) after offering him a lift in his vehicle in J&K’s Doda district on Tuesday was nabbed from near his home in a village in the district on Wednesday. After a night-long search operation, a joint team of police, special operation group, and Army nabbed Mohammad Rafi from a seasonal rivulet near his home in Doda’s Bhalla village and recovered the rifle from his possession.
“SPO Safdar Hussain took a lift in Rafi’s vehicle.When they reached Pul Doda, Hussain got down to buy essentials but left his AK-47 in the vehicle. Rafi fled with the rifle,” said Doda SSP Javed Iqbal.
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area and located the vehicle abandoned near Jagota area of Bhalla on Tuesday night. However, Rafi and the rifle were missing, said the SSP. “Rafi is being interrogated. We are trying to find out the motive behind his actions,” he added.
