NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) got a tough blow in the Delhi Assembly elections as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) surged ahead, leading with 47 seats, as per latest trends by EC. The BJP has won 15 seats and is ahead in 32 constituencies. In contrast, AAP has secured 11 seats and leads in 12, totaling 23 seats. Congress, for the third consecutive time, has failed to open its account in Delhi.
The BJP’s victories include areas like Shalimar Bagh, Rajouri Garden, and Greater Kailash, while AAP has claimed seats in Kondli, Delhi Cantt, and Sadar Bazar, among others.

AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal lost to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, while, Manish Sisodia of AAP conceded defeat to BJP’s Tarvinder Singh Marwah.
The Congress meanwhile failed to win a single seat for the third time.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the people of Delhi for their support, stressing that development and good governance had triumphed.
“It is our guarantee that we will leave no stone unturned in developing Delhi, improving the overall quality of life for the people and ensuring that Delhi has a prime role to play in building a Viksit Bharat,” PM Modi said in a post on X.
The BJP is set to secure a near two-thirds majority in the 70-member assembly, marking a historic win. Voter turnout stood at 60.54%.
