Do you often order food through Zomato? Your bill totals on this popular food delivery platform are set to increase. Zomato has recently announced a 25% hike in the platform fee it charges its users. This means that every order placed on Zomato will now carry a Rs 5 platform fee. Speaking about the hike, a Zomato spokesperson told PTI, “These are business calls which we take basis various factors from time to time”. According to company sources, the hike in platform fees applies to major cities like Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad, among others, PTI reported.

The company first introduced such a fee in August 2023. The initial figure was Rs 2, which has risen gradually. In January 2024, the fee was increased from Rs 3 to Rs 4. Swiggy, Zomato’s main competitor in the delivery space, already charges a platform fee of Rs 5 per order.

PTI reported that, according to the company’s app, it has also paused its intercity food delivery service known as ‘Intercity Legends’. When searching for this service on the app, a message reads, “Enhancements are underway! Please stay tuned as we will be back to serve you soon”.
In January 2024, Zomato made headlines when it announced a new feature for small-scale restaurants called ‘Daily Payouts’. “Our discussions with various restaurant partners highlighted the financial challenges eateries face, using the traditional weekly payout system. This feature is designed to address this critical need for more frequent access to earnings,” reads the official statement. Click here to read the full story.
