Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga initially envisioned Parineeti Chopra as Gitanjali, Rannvijay’s wife, in the blockbuster Animal. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Parineeti had to step away, paving the way for Rashmika Mandanna to take on the role. Following its release, Animal became a massive hit, grossing over Rs 900 crore at the box office. Rashmika’s performance earned widespread acclaim from both fans and critics. Despite missing out on the film, Parineeti holds no regrets, attributing her decision to divine intervention.
Speaking on Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat, Parineeti opened up about losing the role. She said, “To be honest, I think God had something better for me. I was doing that film; almost everything was worked out. But on the same dates, I was offered Chamkila.”
She explained that her role in Chamkila, directed by her dream filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, was an irresistible opportunity, “I was offered many songs, I was singing songs composed by AR Rahman. I was offered to do so much more, that I chose Chamkila. The love, support, recognition, respect, and nominations which I got because of Chamkila, I think I don’t regret it. I am happy.”

In Chamkila, Parineeti portrayed Amarjot, the wife of iconic Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila, played by Diljit Dosanjh. The film chronicles the life of Chamkila, who was tragically murdered alongside his wife on March 8, 1988. Released on Netflix, the movie earned critical acclaim, with Parineeti receiving praise for her nuanced performance.
On a personal note, Parineeti’s husband, politician Raghav Chadha, revealed how Chamkila played a pivotal role in their relationship. “When Parineeti returned to India, she came straight to Punjab for a shoot. We kept meeting, and the relationship grew stronger over time. At first, we met secretly, away from the public eye,” he said, adding that their visits to Gurudwara Chamkaur Sahib were moments of connection and prayer that deepened their bond.
