“The Kerala Story” is a recent movie that has sent shockwaves throughout India due to its exposure to the dark reality of religious conversion for sinister purposes. Produced by Sunshine Pictures Pvt. Ltd. and directed by Sudipto Sen, the film is based on a true story that unveils a dangerous conspiracy that has been hatched against India. The movie exposes the tactics used by Muslim extremists to manipulate and coerce Hindu and Christian girls to convert to Islam in support of their Jihad movement.

The film follows the lives of three college girls, Shalini Unnikrishnan played by Adah Sharma, Gitanjali played by Siddhi Idnani, and Nimah played by Yogita Bihani. The girls become friends with a Muslim girl named Asifa, played by Sonia Balani, who plays a pivotal role in introducing them to Islam and encouraging them to embrace its practices.

Asifa denigrates the Hindu and Christian faiths and promotes Allah as the only true god. She compels the girls to wear hijabs and follow other Islamic customs by staging situations where they are harassed and assaulted in public. Asifa tells them that girls who wear hijabs are safer and are not subjected to such incidents. Asifa also introduces the three girls to her fake doctor cousin with the intention of converting them. Her cousin and his friend engage in physical relationships with the girls under the guise of love, ultimately leading to their conversion to Islam.

As the girls’ relationships with Muslim boys Rameez played by Pranay Pachauri and Abdul played by Pranav Mishra deepen, their lives take a tragic turn. Rameez disappears, leaving Shalini pregnant and unable to marry. Their religious leader advises Shalini to marry someone who is a good person and accepts Shalini and gives her unborn child a name, which leads her to convert to Islam and change her name to Fatima. Fatima accompanies her new husband Ishak to Syria, where she discovers the harsh reality of her life.

In a parallel story, Gitanjali’s relationship with Abdul ends, and he makes her private videos public on the internet, resulting in her suicide. The film exposes the brutal and horrific tactics employed by extremists who manipulate vulnerable girls into converting to Islam for their ulterior motives. Girls who are recruited by ISIS are often used as suicide bombers or sex slaves.

However, it is important to note that the film has faced criticism for its portrayal of Islam and Muslims. Some have argued that the movie paints an unfair and inaccurate picture of religion and the community. The film has received widespread critical acclaim for its bold portrayal of a sensitive subject and the exceptional performances of the cast. The movie has sparked conversations and debates throughout India about religious conversion and the dangers of extremism. It is crucial to approach such sensitive topics with sensitivity and nuance, so as not to perpetuate harmful stereotypes or promote hatred and division.

The screenplay, written by Suryapal Singh, Sudipto Sen, and Vipul Amrutlal Shah, is a bold and hard-hitting portrayal of the extremists’ shocking modus operandi. The actors’ performances are exceptional, with Adah Sharma’s portrayal of Shalini being particularly outstanding. Sudipto Sen’s direction is also noteworthy. The music, cinematography, and action scenes are also commendable, making the movie a well-rounded and impactful experience.

Overall, “The Kerala Story” is a must-see film highlighting the horrifying reality of religious conversion for sinister motives and emphasising the importance of preserving human values. The movie serves as a reminder that religion can be a tool for manipulation and that it is crucial to embrace one’s own religion without blindly following any religious leaders and extremists. Also, the film is an eye-opener for society, highlighting the importance of preserving the individual’s freedom of choice and the need to stand up against those who manipulate and coerce people into converting to their beliefs. The movie also highlights the importance of education and critical thinking in combating extremist ideologies.
