For many member states, the reform of the Security Council became a source of interest. The United Nations Council is one of the important organs of the United Nations. Its main aim is peacekeeping and it manages the conflicts, managing it peacefully without weapons. Its decisions are not limited, that means, it can exercise a wide-ranging power and can take necessary actions.
With all the important characteristics, it has some defaults in its planning and operation. Which needs some changes, that will be taken forward to establish it as a more powerful, strong, and effective position. This calls for the need to reform the Security Council.

It is very important and necessary for the Security Council to exercise these powers effectively, the Council needs to have the required authority and legitimacy, and the Council has to be representative.
Any reform to it requires the agreement of at least two-thirds of UN member states, in the General Assembly and must be ratified by two-thirds of member states. It also requires the approval of the veto power holder, the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
The current situation of the Security Council affects the geopolitical situation, which has not changed its enlargement. The Security Council is no longer seen as the representative of the world as 142 new countries have joined the United Nations.

Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean do not have representation on the council, other than their current standing position and demand.
It’s a call for the balanced distribution of the seats geographically. The charter of the United Nations expressed that countries that can make considerable contributions to the UN, should be the members of the Security Council. Because of this Japan and Germany are identified as the candidates for new permanent seats.
So, the need for reform is quite a favorable opinion in my view. Without reform, the decision-making process can become negative, or it will be transferred to any other forums. The reform needed in-depth communication with democratic consultation. However, due to different cultures, interests, and religions, the UN cannot reform overnight. But a proper process is needed to establish this reform. A healthy conversation with a depth of knowledge and ideas can be possible to reform the Security Council. Also, there is a need to follow the legal procedure and maintain the rules and ethics.
