Are all the people belonging to unreserved or general category wealthy? Is the whole reserved category poor?
Obviously not, there are many poor people from the unreserved group and there are many well-off people from the reserved group. It would not be wrong to say that caste-based reservation is a privilege for the lower caste and discrimination against the upper caste.

The results of this policy are ironic i.e it was formed to encourage equality but it is somehow creating more inequality and discrimination.
Let’s assume that there are two candidates one is SC and the other one is general, both have scored 95percent both are eligible and equally deserving but there is only one seat, the one who is from the unreserved category is selected and the other one is not.
Is it not discrimination based on caste, due to which one candidate is selected because he is SC but another one is rejected just because he belongs to the general category.

Now, what if, in the same situation, we will consider who is needier in terms of money and reservation will be given based on that. It would be better and it will help in dealing with the problem of poverty.
So, what I feel is that in today’s scenario Caste based reservation is not required anymore, to deal with the problem of poverty, reservation should be on the basis of economic status only and even this should be removed after the purpose of overcoming poverty will be fulfilled.
Reservation should not be an ongoing process, it is initiated to fulfill one purpose, like initially it was introduced to abolish casteism, so now when the purpose had been fulfilled it should be changed and should be molded to overcome the problem of poverty.

In a democratic country like India, there should be no need for a caste-based reservation.
I would like to conclude that, there is an alarming need for the government of India to realize that, there is a need to change the existing reservation policy, no citizen should feel discriminated against by the law on the basis of caste.
